Do Not Give Up

A Testimony of Healing and Sign of Salvation

  • Article by Carmen Chong

In March 2021, mum was paralysed and in severe pain after a fall. Doctors could not give us a clear solution. As dad continued to search for treatment for mum, I was hopeful that they would recognise God as their best physician.

The Holy Spirit prompted me to seek prayer support, and so I did, with my Life Group, 3Sixteen group, Bible study group, and Bible College friends. Their responses were immediate and touching.

One of them suggested to have a group call to pray for my mum. I took to action and invited mum, who is in my hometown, in as well. Although mum barely understood what was spoken during the call, she knew we were wanting to help her. I mustered the courage and asked her whether she would be willing to, and she followed my guidance and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour that night!

Although mum barely understood what was spoken during the call, she knew we were wanting to help her.

Though this had happened, yet I was not fully sure about the genuineness of her faith, knowing she tends to be very obliging.

What followed next was strange.

For the next few nights, mum had horrifying dreams that had her wanting to run out of the house. The enemy may have been at work in disturbing her. Having heard of this, one of the Sectional LG Leaders advised me to fast and pray for mum.

"Fasting? Can that really help? How?” And so I researched about it. In fact, I was fearful that things might worsen before they turn for the better. I was also believing in the lie that God is always wanting to change only the one praying. I did not want to deal with more changes!

I was also believing in the lie that God is always wanting to change only the one praying. I did not want to deal with more changes!

"God works in mysterious ways, that is why believers are taught to obey.” Those were the words that came into my mind before I obeyed in prayer and fasting.

To my surprise, a few days later, mum shared with me that the bad dreams stopped, and that she had prayed to Jesus! She also said that for a few nights, she had seen "people in white" outside her room before her bedtime and she asked them to guard her room for her before she fell asleep. I affirmed that angels were protecting her.

I was greatly relieved and encouraged by the miracle, and grateful to God for honouring our faith and showing me how real and good He is. Today, mum can already stand up and walk with a walking stick! The church in our hometown is following up with her in her walk with God.

I can’t thank all of them enough – pastors, leaders, Calvarites, friends who have lifted my mum up in prayer and for the spiritual covering.

Church, are you looking forward to your loved ones acknowledging Jesus as Saviour and Lord? We cannot make that choice for them; but we can always be there for them until they say yes! Don’t give up. Through prayer and fasting, support from others, and acting by faith, we will witness the fulfilment of God’s promise of salvation for our loved ones.
