Breakthrough! A Prayer Conference

As a church family, we were inspired, challenged, and convicted by the spiritual insights shared at the Breakthrough Prayer Conference, held from Friday to Saturday, 31 July to 1 August 2026. Across the two days, God called us back to the Source, Himself, reminding us of the urgency of the Great Commission and deepening our understanding of prayer and intercession. A total of 1,341 people gathered for the Friday Prayer Rally, while 785 attended the Saturday Conference.

Friday: Returning to the Source
At the prayer rally, Pastor Philip Mantofa of Gereja Mawar Sharon, Indonesia, spoke on the River of the Holy Spirit. The account in Ezekiel 47:1–9 tells us the river flowed from a significant place: the temple, the dwelling place of God. Pastor Philip challenged the church to return to the “entrance of the temple,” back to the Source from which the river flows.

For us today, we experience this life-giving flow by staying connected to God, dwelling continually in His presence, and living yielded and surrendered to Him. We remain rooted in Him through His Word, the solid foundation that shapes not only what we believe but also how we live.

Pastor Mantofa also called the church to faithfully steward the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit and make haste to reach the lost. – The message was clear: the time is now. There is an urgency to evangelise, make disciples, and live empowered by the Holy Spirit because Jesus is returning soon.

Saturday: Revival and The Three Levels of Prayer
The conference began with Pastor Solomon Bulan recounting the 1973 Bario Revival, which he witnessed firsthand. The revival began in a classroom during a regular prayer and Bible discussion with 12 Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF) leaders. As he was about to conclude the meeting, a timid young boy interrupted, saying, “Sir... may I pray?”

As the boy prayed, the Holy Spirit brought him under deep conviction, and his prayer became a heartfelt cry of repentance. Soon, the room filled with loud prayers, deep sobbing, and cries of repentance, drawing other students from the hostel. This became the tipping point of the Bario Revival—a movement of repentance was ignited, and the revival fire spread from the classroom into the wider community and beyond.

Pastor Solomon reminded us that behind every revival stands one Person—the Holy Spirit, who alone prepares hearts, orchestrates events and brings about transformation that no human effort can produce.

In a beautiful demonstration of intergenerational ministry, Pastor Rachel Bulan then took us on a deep dive into the three levels of prayer found in Matthew 7:7–8: Ask (Petition), Seek (Devotion) and Knock (Intercession). Petition begins with knowing who we are in Christ. Seeking calls us to behold Him, cultivating silence and solitude as we align our hearts with His.

David learned to seek God in the secret place long before facing Goliath, and from that place came the faith and boldness to confront giants. Pastor Rachel’s challenge was pointed: Have we sacrificed intimacy with God on the altar of productivity and busyness?

Intimacy with God grows through three distinct stages. We begin by asking in humble submission as servants. Next, we seek the Father with confidence as sons and daughters. Ultimately, we knock as a bride, entering into deep oneness with the Bridegroom until what beats in His heart begins to resonate in ours.

Intercession, in essence, is sharing the burden of Christ. It is not reserved for a select few—it is the calling of every believer. These truths were brought together in a powerful time of corporate worship and prayer, which included a beautiful intergenerational moment where representatives from different generations took turns praying over one another, committing to faithfully support each other and steward all that God has entrusted to them.

Carrying the Fire Forward
As the conference came to a close, we were reminded that breakthrough is not simply about what God can do for us, but also about what He desires to do in us and through us. Let us keep praying, keep seeking and keep knocking. Let us contend in faith to see God’s will established in our lives, in our church and across our land. May His Kingdom come, His purposes prevail, and His name be glorified in and through us.
May the fire God has kindled in us over these two days be carried beyond the conference
into our church, homes, workplaces, communities and nation.
