Our Story
The story of Calvary Church began during World War II with missionaries who cared for a small community. With faith and courage, they built their first spiritual home, Calvary Church Damansara Heights, which was established in 1968.
A few years later, in 1972, the late Reverend Tan Sri Dr. Prince and Puan Sri Dr. Petrina Guneratnam became Calvary's first local senior pastors, leading the church to grow beyond its walls. From just 120 members, Calvary went on to establish 31 churches and extend its humanitarian and education initiatives across the world, reaching communities in South Sudan, The Gambia, Jordan, Haiti, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal and the Philippines.
In 2013, the 5,000-seat Calvary Convention Centre came to fruition as a home where the community gathers for worship, education, creative arts, sports, meetings, shared meals and quiet reflection.
As part of the Assemblies of God family, Calvary Church is led by a dedicated pastoral team under the leadership of Ministry Pastor Steven Kum and Administrative Pastor Jim Guneratnam, together with the Church Council.
Like a fountain that overflows, our hearts and doors are always open to welcome you into the love of God and the family we share.
Our Vision
Calvary Church is to be a Fountainhead Church.
A fountainhead is a well spring, an abundant source of water, from which streams flow to be a blessing far and wide.
Calvary Church is to be a "fountainhead church" where the good news of Jesus Christ will reach out to communities, cities, nations and to the ends of the world.
Our Mission
A Jesus Generation
A Jesus Generation (1 Peter 2:9-12) is one that is chosen to possess the ministry of a prophet, priest and king. This is not just for fathers but for the whole Church.
- We are the prophets and witnesses who declare the glorious Gospel message.
- We called to be priests to stand as intercessors.
- We are called to be kings. We govern the natural man and live after the Spirit.
An Equipping Institution
God's gifts to the church (Ephesians 4:11-12), apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers are to equip the believers for service through education and training them, "… until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and became mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13-14).
A Sending Church
The Bible says, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:19-20). Calvary Church is called to be an evangelistic and missionary sending church. Through vibrant, multi-faceted ministries, we are committed to equipping and empowering believers to step into their God-given calling.
